About Us

Life and Gardening is written by Dan and Loan, a couple raising a flock of eight backyard chickens and a home garden in USDA Zone 7b. The flock is a mix: three Buff Brahmas, two Golden Laced Wyandottes, a Sapphire Gem, a Barred Rock and a Rustic Rock.
We started in spring 2026 for a simple reason: we wanted clean, healthy food for ourselves and our kids, and we wanted to know exactly where it came from. That began with a coop kit we put together ourselves, and the garden has grown right alongside the flock.

How we write
We keep it practical: what to do, why it matters and what it costs. When something comes from our own yard, we say so. When it does not, we stick to well-established guidance instead of guessing. We do not give medical or veterinary advice, and when a bird is sick we will tell you when it is time to call a vet who treats poultry.
Some pages include affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you, and it never changes what we recommend. Details are in our affiliate disclosure.
